Technical Requirements

Overview

These are the minimum computer requirements necessary for your online courses to run properly. Please read this information carefully, as you must ensure that your computer is properly configured. Computer Requirements

Operating System:

  • Windows XP or higher
  • Mac OS 10.3 or higher

Connection: Broadband Connection, 1.5 Mbps or better

Other Hardware: Sound card and speakers

Web Browser Requirements

The following web browsers are formally supported and tested:

  • With PCs running Windows OS:
    • Internet Explorer version 7 or 8,
    • Firefox 3
  • With Macs running OS X:
    • Firefox  3

Presenters or faculty who wish to use the Live Presentation tools (desktop sharing) must use a Windows operating system.

Browser Settings

  • Cookies must be enabled
  • Javascript must be enabled
  • Popup blockers must be disabled, or configured to allow pop-up windows from your online courses
  • AJAX (XMLHttpRequest) must be supported and enabled in your browser.

Suggested Plug-ins

 

Adobe Acrobat

Your courses may include .pdf files, which require the Adobe Acrobat Reader. If Acrobat is not installed on your computer, please download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

 
 

Adobe Flash

Your courses may include images or animations that require the Macromedia Flash plug-in. If you do not have Flash installed, or have difficulty viewing the animations, you may load the most current version of the Flash plug-in here: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash.

 
 

Compression/"Zip" Utility

This course may require the use of a compression utility such as WinZip to create a zipped file (*.zip). If you do not have a compression utility installed on your computer, you may download a free copy of WinZip here: http://www.winzip.com/prodpagewz.htm.

 
 

Flip4Mac (Mac only)

Flip4Mac is a Quicktime plugin which allows the user to view Windows Media files on a Mac, directly in the Quicktime player. You may download the plugin here:

Java

Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.4 or greater must be installed and enabled. Download Java here: http://www.java.com.

 
 

Microsoft Excel

Your courses may require the use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software. If you do not have Excel, please contact your instructor.

 
 

Microsoft PowerPoint

Your courses may include Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. If you do not have PowerPoint installed on your computer, you may use the free PowerPoint viewer to view the course materials. QuickTime
